Young Friends and MJE Yom Hashoah Program

Wednesday, May 4, 7:30 P.M.
Museum of Jewish Heritage

Nearly 400 young professionals joined The Young Friends of the Museum of Jewish Heritage and Manhattan Jewish Experience to commemorate the 6 million lives lost during the Holocaust. Opening remarks by Rabbi Mark Wildes and a Member of the Young Friends were followed by a special candle lighting ceremony, memorial service, and an intimate interview with Mrs. Stephania Hecht, who witnessed the atrocities of Auschwitz and lived through the post-war Romanian communist regime. Unique and personal, this discussion not only recounted important personal history, but also placed an emphasis on how the next generation can make sure those who were lost are never forgotten.

Special Thank You to 3GNY, Brotherhood Synagogue, JICNY, Columbia-Barnard Hillel and Hillel at Baruch College for their support in hosting this event.

Guests enjoyed an exclusive tour of the Museum of Jewish Heritage and a mimosa brunch with spectacular harbor views. Varda Yoran, sculptor and wife of Life Trustee, Shalom Yoran, z"l shared her story about growing up in China during the Holocaust.

Young Friends Delegation of March of the Living
April 12-26, 2015 in Israel and Poland

Join the Young Friends on this the annual educational trip to sites of persecution and former sites of Jewish life in Poland. On Yom Hashoah, participants join more than 12,000 people from 40 countries in a two-mile march from Auschwitz to Birkenau in silent tribute to victims of the Holocaust. From Poland, the trip continues to Israel, where participants observe Yom Ha'zikaron (Israel Memorial Day) and celebrate Yom Ha'atzmaut (Israel Independence Day). This life-changing experience in Poland and Israel takes place from April 12-26, 2015. An optional Poland-only itinerary returns to New York on April 20, 2015.
