When Louis and Lilly Zabar rented a counter in a dairy store on 80th street and Broadway in 1934 to sell smoked fish they never imagined that their store would eventually occupy half a city block and become a beloved destination for quality food of all kinds. Zabar’s: A Family Story, with Recipes by Lori Zabar tells the fascinating, mouthwatering story of the immigrant family that created a New York gastronomic legend. Three generations of Zabars, including Henry Mariscal and Stanley, Judy, Saul, Carole, and David Zabar, will discuss the book, their experiences, and their store’s iconic place in New York history with Julia Moskin, The New York Times Food staff reporter who wrote the forward of the book.
