STAJE Summer Seminar for Teachers in Jewish Schools

European Jewry on the Eve of the Holocaust
July 10, 12 and 13 (No class on July 11 in commemoration of the Fast of the 17th of Tammuz)
10am – 5pm

Jewish school educators are invited to apply to participate in this three-day summer seminar.

The Holocaust destroyed not only individual Jews, but also the culturally rich, religiously, and politically diverse world that made up European Jewry. In this seminar we will survey the major Jewish communities before the outbreak of the war – Germany, Poland, Hungary, the Soviet Union, and Greece – in order to gain a deeper understanding of what made each community unique and therefore to have a more profound appreciation of what was lost. Moreover, exploring the history of each Jewish community on the eve of the Holocaust will help us make sense of the various ways these communities dealt with the events of the Holocaust as they unfolded.

A light lunch will be provided (dietary laws observed) each day of the seminar. A portion of public transportation or parking will be reimbursed for participating teachers.
