Close alert

In 1943, Danish officials learned that the Germans were planning to deport all of the Jews in Denmark. Leo Goldberger was 13 years old when his family received an official warning to go into hiding before escaping to Sweden. His family arrived safely in Sweden just as hundreds of other fishing boats carried nearly every Jew in Denmark – 7,220 men, women, and children – to safety.

In the program below, Leo Goldberger is in conversation with filmmaker Damian Slattery, whose first feature A Day in October tells the story of the dramatic rescue of Danish Jews in WWII Copenhagen.
