Concentration camp cap worn at Mauthausen by Sam Moneta Born in Bedzin, Poland, Sam Moneta was arrested in Poland in 1943, sent to Birkenau, then Gross-Rosen and Buchenwald. Due to overcrowding, he was transferred to Mauthausen and finally liberated.  After liberation he returned to Poland, and immigrated to the United States in 1952 by way of Sweden and Canada.
