The Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust seeks a qualified and motivated candidate for the position of Assistant Curator, Collections. This role is a full-time, early-to-mid career position in the curatorial sub-department, working closely with the entire Collections and Exhibitions Department to provide museum-standard care, interpretation, and access to the Museum’s Permanent Collection.   

Job Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to New Acquisitions program by developing relationships with potential object donors/vendors, nominating objects for acquisition, and facilitating object donation meetings.
  • Contribute to Permanent Collection cataloging by describing objects’ intellectual content and contextual history.
  • Contribute to digitization efforts and online publication of collection records, including identifying project needs, editing, and curatorial approval.
  • With senior curators, monitor and optimize collections workflows, including accessions, cataloging, digitization, and online publication. Manage reports and tracking for institutional funders.
  • Provide reference services to internal and external audiences and facilitate use of Permanent Collection, including Rights and Reproductions requests.
  • Recommend collection-related content for social media and education initiatives, providing images, historical information, and interpretation.
  • Provide administrative and ideation support to curatorial team as needed, including maintaining physical and digital records.

Requirements:

  • College degree with at least two years of experience in a museum, archive or library; master’s in library science or related field a plus.
  • Dedicated interest in and awareness of modern Jewish history and the Holocaust preferred.
  • Strong background in curatorial and collections work
  • Experience with copyright, licensing, publications desired.
  • Familiarity with current standards used in libraries, archives and museums for description, preservation, and digitization.
  • Experience with TMS a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Creative self-starter with strong organizational ability.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and with staff at all levels of the organization and a variety of leadership styles.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.

Position Details:

  • Reports to Associate Curator 
  • Covered by the DC-37 collective bargaining agreement 
  • Hourly compensation rate of $26.52 
  • Full-time, 40 hours weekly
