The Director of Educational Programs is a key member of the Educational Team and is responsible for developing and overseeing dynamic educational initiatives that reflect the Museum’s mission to educate about Jewish life before, during, and after the Holocaust. The Director of Educational Programs collaborates with educators, scholars, schools, and partner organizations to create impactful learning experiences for diverse audiences, including students, teachers, and the general public both in person and online.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee development and implementation of a robust professional learning strategy for educators in both secular and Jewish day school environments, ensuring alignment with current pedagogical best practices
  • Support the Museum Educator Manager in the supervision, training, and scheduling of volunteer and paid tour guides and in tour development
  • Support the Internship Programs Manager in developing, implementing, and recruiting for internship programs. Assist in creating pre-visit and post-visit workshops, training interns, and coordinating school visit schedules
  • Either directly or through supervision of staff, plan and implement all special programming, outreach, and evaluation for Jewish day schools, teachers, and synagogue educational programs
  • Develop age-appropriate curricula and teaching materials aligned with state and national educational standards
  • Expand the Museum’s reach through the development of innovative digital programming and online resources for educators and learners across diverse settings
  • Represent the Museum at educational conferences, community events, and within professional networks to promote its programs and build meaningful partnerships
  • Lead efforts to evaluate program outcomes using feedback, surveys, and data analysis. Implement enhancements based on research, user input, and evolving educational needs
  • Contribute to grant-related documentation and reporting related to educational initiatives
  • Provide support for group tours and VIP visits, assist with entry logistics for tour groups, and contribute to departmental administrative tasks and cross-functional initiatives as needed

 Requirements:  

  • Master’s degree in relevant discipline (Education, Judaic Studies, History, Holocaust Education) or equivalent work experience preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years of recent leadership experience in education or museum education required
  • Work experience in a public-serving cultural institution preferred
  • Excellent organization, planning, and administrative skills; able to prioritize and coordinate multiple activities and meet deadlines
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills; strength in relationship building and teamwork.
  • Must have working knowledge of the MS office products and other related applications, knowledge of ticketing systems, and CRMs

Position Details:

  • Reports to the Vice President of Education and Visitor Services
  • Supervises: Museum Educator Manager; Associate Director, School & Teacher Programs; Internship Programs Manager
  • Salary compensation range $80,000-$95,000 with generous benefits
  • The successful candidate will expect to work onsite and might include limited weekend or weeknights (Limited hybrid arrangements will be considered after 90-day onboarding)
