Directed by the Emmy Award winning documentarian Steve McCarthyEva’s Promise tells the story of Eva, who promised her brother, Heinz Geiringer, that she would retrieve his paintings and poetry, hidden under the floorboards of the attic where Heinz and his father were hiding, if he should die in the concentration camps. Heinz and Eva’s mother married Otto Frank, Anne Frank’s father, after the war, and so their story often sits in the shadows of The Diary of a Young Girl, but this film showcases Heinz’s artistry and Eva’s dedication to share his story.

Eva’s Promise sold out The Montclair Film Festival in October 2022 and the NJ Jewish Film Festival in March 2023. The Museum of Jewish Heritage is honored to screen Eva’s Promise, followed by a talkback with Steve McCarthy; Eva’s grandson, Eric Schloss; and the film’s producer, Susan Kerner. Explore Eva’s incredible story, as well as the stories of the Schloss and Geiringer families who have kept Eva and Heinz’s legacies alive over the years.
