Join us for a moving webinar in commemoration of Yom HaShoah on April 24 at 11:00 AM ET. Survivor Maritza Shelly will share the story of her experiences during the Holocaust. Born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1928, Maritza survived the horrors of being separated from her family, forced labor, and death marches. She and her sister rescued themselves by passing as non-Jewish refugees and later hiding in Budapest using false papers.
Maritza’s story of survival, strength, and resilience is one of courage against all odds. After leaving Hungary in 1947, she moved to New York, where she earned a degree in Humanities and Art History from NYU, worked as a photographer, and later as a paralegal. For 18 years, she led tours at the Brooklyn Museum and continues to share her story as a member of the Speakers Bureau at the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear Maritza’s testimony, ask questions, and reflect on the significance of Yom HaShoah. This testimony is suitable for grades 8-12.
