In this livestreamed, virtual tour we will learn about the history of the Jewish community of Peru’s capital city of Lima, focusing especially on its colonial roots during the period of the Spanish occupation of Peru. We will follow the footsteps of one of the most important representatives of this 17th century “secret” Jewish community of Lima, Manuel Bautista Perez, a Portuguese merchant accused of being Jewish in 1635, and later killed by the inquisition in 1639. We will also learn about the Inquisition of Lima and the history of the “Autos de fe” in the new world. Co-presented with Wowzitude
