The new short film The Ice Cream Man tells the true story of Ernst Cahn, a popular Jewish ice cream parlor owner, who, shortly after the Nazi invasion of the Netherlands, finds himself targeted by the infamous “Butcher of Lyon,” Klaus Barbie. As his world crumbles, Cahn must choose between resistance and death…a choice that will reverberate throughout the country.
Join the Museum for a screening of the film followed by a discussion with Noah Emmerich, who stars in the film as Ernst Cahn; Nik Pajic, who plays Klaus Barbie in the film; Meghan Reinertsen, who plays Helga Cahn in the film; Robert Moniot, the film’s writer, director, and producer; Jim Timperman, the film’s director of photography; and Greg Malone, the film’s producer. The discussion will be moderated by Doyle Stevick, Executive Director of the University of South Carolina’s Anne Frank Center.

Noah Emmerich is an American actor and director who is best known for his roles in films such as Beautiful Girls, The Truman Show, Frequency, Miracle, Little Children, and Super 8. From 2013 to 2018 he starred as FBI agent Stan Beeman on the FX series The Americans, for which he won the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2019. Recent work includes films The Good Nurse and The Spy, and the TV comedy Space Force.
Born to Serbian parents in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nik Pajic grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. He studied English at the University of Cincinnati where he saw a production of Our Town at the College Conservatory of Music in his senior year which changed his trajectory from writing to acting. He studied at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting (NY), and is a graduate of the Maggie Flanigan Studio in New York City. ACT award winner for stage performances in the plays Murdered to Death, and The 39 Steps, he has appeared in numerous regional theater productions such as Glengarry Glen Ross, Macbeth, and the title role of Frankenstein. Film roles include Carol (Todd Haynes), The Public (Emilio Estevez), and Klaus Barbie in The Ice Cream Man.
Meghan Reinertsen is an Atlanta-based actress and writer. She has trained extensively with The Second City Chicago, Drama Inc., and Dad’s Garage. Her acting work includes a variety of regional commercials and short films, and she most recently worked with Juice Box Films to produce Kaitlyn Mikayla’s debut film RAGAMUFFIN. Currently, Meghan is developing her first film, A SEARCH FOR PLEASURE, a coming-of-age story based on personal experiences in self-love and friendship.
Robert Moniot is a writer/director/producer based in Los Angeles but currently living abroad with his U.S. diplomat wife and four Diplo-kids. His first short film, The Dancing Cow, was purchased by Steven Spielberg. Moniot’s second short (and directorial debut), the satire Pearl Harbor II: Pearlmageddon, had its world premiere at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival and was purchased by HBO. His first feature screenplay, Armageddagain, was optioned by New Line Cinema. After leaving the business for an extended stint as a stay-at-home dad, Moniot is currently developing The Berlin Game, a WWII actioner about Bond creator Ian Fleming; Buckingham Boys, a heist comedy; and Seven Days of the Dragon, a cyber-attack thriller.
At age 11, Jim Timperman discovered his life calling while watching a movie at the Indiana theater in Bloomington. But being unable to procure a Spaceship or a Wookie co-pilot, he decided to go with his fallback career: Cinematography. Timperman has shot hundreds of commercials and over 40 feature films. Recent projects include the award-winning indie feature DEAD DRAW, SXSW contender MS. WHITE LIGHT, and the senatorial ad campaign for former astronaut Mark Kelly. Shooting in a studio or on location in cities as far flung as London, Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Florence, Prague, Warsaw, Mumbai, Tokyo, Lima, and most recently in Amsterdam shooting plates for THE ICE CREAM MAN, Timperman’s work has won multiple awards at film festivals and in the ad agency world.
Greg Malone is based in Indianapolis, where through his company Road Pictures, he has created branded content for a wide variety of regional and national clients including McDonald’s, Eli Lilly, Honda, Four Roses Bourbon, Maui Jim, Emergent, Gilead, McDonald’s, numerous healthcare systems, state lotteries, and more. Other credits include the Sundance premiere feature Madison, the Farrelly Brothers Roku series, The Now, and a series of pandemic response films penned by major writers sponsored by The New Harmony Project. His work has garnered multiple advertising awards and has won numerous awards at the Heartland Film Festival and Indy Shorts International Film Festival. His work has taken him to 40 states and 6 countries.
