Jews have lived in Dublin since 1232, and, while the community now numbers only 1,800 people, the community is distinguished. As we walk through Dublin’s “Little Jerusalem,” our guide will tell us how the pogroms of 1880s Russia gave rise to the first influx of Jews into Ireland. We will explore too the amazing story of the Harrington Plan, hatched in the 1650s, which would have made Ireland a new home for the Jewish people, and learn about the British Israelites and their beliefs that the inhabitants of the British Isles are descended from the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel, and that the Ark of the Covenant is buried at Tara, the ancient Celtic capital of Ireland.
