Exhibition curator and acclaimed Holocaust scholar Robert Jan van Pelt will explore the significance of many artifacts included in Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. and how they differ. Artifacts featured will include those that came with background history versus artifacts whose history was invoked through forensic means, those that directly derive from the Holocaust versus objects that were created for the exhibition, and artifacts that are used historically versus those that are used symbolically. This lecture thoroughly explores many curatorial issues raised in the development of the exhibition and the thought process behind crucial decisions.

This event is one in a two-part series for Museum members only.
