A leading authority on Jewish food, Leah Koenig celebrates la cucina Ebraica Romana within the pages of her new cookbook, Portico: Cooking and Feasting in Rome’s Jewish Kitchen, which features over 100 deeply flavorful recipes and beautiful photographs of Rome’s Jewish community, the oldest in Europe. A cookbook for anyone who wants to dive more deeply into Jewish foodways or gain new insight into Rome, Portico features the makers and creators who are keeping Roman Jewish food alive today, transporting us to the bustling streets of the Eternal City while also making us feel—as we cook and eat—very much at home.

Koenig will showcase the recipes in Portico and discuss the book, it’s making, and what she learned with and from Rome’s Jewish community. A signing will follow, with books available for purchase.

Leah Koenig is the author of seven cookbooks, including the acclaimed The Jewish Cookbook, Modern Jewish Cooking, and most recently, Portico: Cooking and Feasting in Rome’s Jewish Kitchen. Koenig’s writing and recipes can be found in The New York Times, New York Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Food & Wine, Epicurious, and Food52, among other publications. She also writes a weekly newsletter, The Jewish Table, which shares recipes and stories from the world of Jewish food. In addition to writing, Koenig leads cooking demonstrations and workshops around the country and world. She lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and two children.
